Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the franchise player and first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays and son of forner Montreal Expos legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., has signed a new 14-year $500 million dollar contract extension with the team.

The new deal is the third largest in MLB history, coming in behind Juan Soto’s $765 million dollar deal and Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million dollar deal.

It’s a fitting deal for Guerrero Jr., who, at only 22, led the league in home runs, runs scored, and total bases in 2021. That year he was named to the All-Star team and became the youngest player in history to win ASG MVP.

In his seven year career, Guerrero is a 4x All-Star, a Gold Glove winner and a Home Run Derby Champion.

Locking down their young superstar for basically his career was a big win for the Blue Jays, a team looking to recapture its winning ways after a 74-88 season last year.

With Guerrero Jr. taken care of, now the team can focus on adding more talent to the roster to surround their star player with.
