Todd Bowles has done a great job as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and so the team has rewarded him with a contract extension.
The extension is for three seasons according to ESPN, which keeps Bowles as the head coach through the 2028 season.
“I am excited to continue working with Jason [Licht, team GM, who also received an extension] for years to come as we build on the success we’ve enjoyed and keep reaching for even bigger and better goals,” said Bowles said in a statement. “My family loves Tampa and we’re looking forward to delivering more great moments for our fans in the coming seasons.”
In his three years as the team’s head coach, he has amassed a record of 27-24. Even more impressively, he has led the Bucs to three straight NFC South titles (2022 – 2024).
Last season, Bowles led the Bucs to a 10-7 record before losing to the Washington Commanders in the NFC wild-card game.
“Jason and Todd’s leadership has been critical to our organization’s success. The winning culture they have established has us well positioned for the future,” said Buccaneers owner/co-chairman Joel Glazer in a statement. “The continuity and stability they provide will play a large role in our ability to compete for additional championships.”
Under Bowles, former number one overall pick Baker Mayfield has found a home where he has thrived, throwing for over 4,000 yards in each of his two seasons with the team.
In addition, under Bowles leadership, the team’s defense has been one of the stingiest in the league since 2019 (when he first became the team’s defensive coordinator before being elevated to head coach in 2022).
Per ESPN, the Bucs defense leads the NFL in “rushing defense (93.8 yards per game), opponent yards per carry (4.0), and fumble recoveries (68), while placing second in sacks (281.0) and fifth in red zone efficiency (53.8%).”
