Desai, who replaces the now retired Chuck Pagano, becomes the first coordinator of Indian descent in NFL history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Big move for the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bears?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bears<\/a>: Chicago is hiring Sean Desai to be its new defensive coordinator, sources say. To my knowledge, the first person of Indian descent to become a coordinator in the NFL. They call him \u201cDoc\u201d for his doctorate at Temple, now they\u2019ll also call him DC.<\/p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RapSheet\/status\/1352738769447878656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 22, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Desai started his coaching career with the Bears in 2013 as a quality control assistant. He moved up the ranks, working with the team&#8217;s defensive backs and linebackers, and was promoted to safeties coach in 2019. Now he takes the reigns of a defense that needs to improve in order for the Bears to advance further in the playoffs next season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think Sean is ready,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/sports\/bears\/ct-chicago-bears-sean-desai-vic-fangio-defense-20210123-icfnmmblp5abbki7beui6jo2ce-story.html\">said former Bears defensive coordinator Nick Fangio<\/a>. \u201cHe thinks he is, which is more than half the battle. I know he has confidence in himself that he can do it. He definitely thinks he is more than ready for this and that\u2019s a big part of it. He\u2019s confident and I think the players will see how confident he is and how excited he is and that will get them off to a good start.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ascent of &#8220;Doc&#8221;, Desai&#8217;s team anointed nickname as he has a doctorate in educational administration from Temple University, is one that Nagy was happy to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are very fortunate and excited to promote from within,\u201d said head coach Matt Nagy said in a statement. \u201cHe is a person of high football intelligence, extremely detail oriented, has a very strong work ethic and I cannot think of someone more deserving to lead our defense.
