The annual award, now in its third year, recognizes NBA players for &#8220;pursuing social justice and upholding the NBA&#8217;s values of equality, respect and inclusion.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Congratulations to the amazing <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StephenCurry30?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@StephenCurry30<\/a> <br>I am so proud of you for being a champion on and off the court! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CBlRGqiik1\">https:\/\/t.co\/CBlRGqiik1<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (@kaj33) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaj33\/status\/1661052496125767680?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 23, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/news\/stephen-curry-2022-23-kareem-abdul-jabbar-social-justice-champion-award\">Per the release<\/a>, Curry was selected from a group of five finalists for &#8220;his dedication to pursuing social justice and advancing Abdul-Jabbar\u2019s life mission to engage, empower and drive equality for individuals and groups who have been historically marginalized or systemically disadvantaged.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curry&#8217;s efforts aren&#8217;t singular, for he&#8217;s involved with many programs and initiatives that seek to foster change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He&#8217;s a co-chair of former First Lady Michelle Obama\u2019s \u201cWhen We All Vote\u201d initiative, which helps drive voter registration, education and turnout. He&#8217;s also advocated for the passage of the\u00a0<em>Freedom to Vote Act<\/em>\u00a0in the U.S. Senate and has helped generate awareness around community safety by working directly with the White House and President Biden.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curry has also used his platform to eliminate barriers to entry for marginalized and underrepresented groups including women&#8217;s sports and Black golfers at Howard University, where he personally <a href=\"https:\/\/firstandpen.com\/staging\/5861\/howard-university-raises-over-3-million-for-golf-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helped finance the team&#8217;s launch and assisted in fundraising for the program<\/a> through a charity golf tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that&#8217;s not all.<\/p><div id=\"first-3686358460\" class=\"first-content first-entity-placement\"><!-- \/22950135888\/FAP_Article_Leaderboard_Instream2 -->\r\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1700413625220-0' style='min-width: 300px; min-height: 90px;'>\r\n  <script>\r\n    googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1700413625220-0'); });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He and his wife, Ayesha, co-founded the non-profit <em>Eat. Learn.
