Paramus Catholic is looking forward to Coach Thomas bringing his national level experience back home to his roots in northern NJ.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VarsityAces?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@VarsityAces<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BHHwmLexIt\">pic.twitter.com\/BHHwmLexIt<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Paramus Catholic (@ParamusCathHS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ParamusCathHS\/status\/1641420610898198529?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 30, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 3x high school All-American for Paterson Catholic played collegiately at Villanova, where he made he was named to the All-Big East and All-Big East Tournament teams. He also won the Big East Rookie of the Year award while averaging 17 points and 6 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After one season with the Wildcats, Thomas was drafted with the seventh overall pick by the New Jersey Nets in the 1997 NBA Draft. But he was traded immediately to the 76ers in exchange for Keith Van Horn, and he responded by making second-team All-Rookie in his first season in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thomas spent 13 years in the NBA, playing for the 76ers, Bucks, Knicks, Bulls, Suns, Clippers and Mavericks before finally retiring in 2010.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After coaching at Faith Baptist high school in California and with AAU teams, Thomas, 46, returns home as the Paladins&#8217; new head basketball coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m excited about the opportunity to give back and I\u2019m looking forward to it,\u201d said Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While he&#8217;s happy to return back to the state where he averaged 25.3 points and 14.5 rebounds per game as a senior, he knows the challenge he faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Paladins are coming off of a 13-15 season and the state&#8217;s largest parochial school plays in the Big North Conference United Division, the toughest division in New Jersey.<\/p><div id=\"first-2974781776\" class=\"first-content first-entity-placement\"><!-- \/22950135888\/FAP_Article_Leaderboard_Instream2 -->\r\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1700413625220-0' style='min-width: 300px; min-height: 90px;'>\r\n  <script>\r\n    googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1700413625220-0'); });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it&#8217;s a challenge Thomas is ready to tackle for he knows what he brings to the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;There are a lot of great coaches, obviously, in the state of New Jersey,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/boys-basketball\/2023\/03\/30\/tim-thomas-named-paramus-catholic-nj-boys-basketball-coach\/70062138007\/\">said Thomas<\/a>. &#8220;But you rarely find guys that played at the highest level, and played at almost every level. That experience alone is going to draw kids into Paramus Catholic and to play for me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also put the job into perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;My vision is to get kids and see them grow and develop, week by week, month by month, year by year.
