{"id":4588,"date":"2023-01-19T01:15:06","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T06:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firstandpen.com\/staging\/5861\/?p=4588"},"modified":"2023-01-19T01:20:16","modified_gmt":"2023-01-19T06:20:16","slug":"national-lacrosse-league-nll-expands-support-for-every-child-matters-indigenous-communities-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firstandpen.com\/staging\/5861\/national-lacrosse-league-nll-expands-support-for-every-child-matters-indigenous-communities-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"National Lacrosse League Expands Support For &#8220;Every Child Matters&#8221; Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acknowledging and addressing a horrific past is always painful, but last year the National Lacrosse League (NLL) did just that <a href=\"https:\/\/firstandpen.com\/staging\/5861\/the-nlls-every-child-matters-shirt-honors-indigenous-culture-and-an-uncomfortable-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">through their &#8220;Every Child Matters&#8221; initiative benefitting Indigenous communities and causes.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lacrosse was birthed by Indigenous communities, communities that were ripped apart by theft, murder, colonization and Indigenous Residential Schools&nbsp;across the U.S. and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These schools were created to assimilate Indigenous populations. There they stripped children of their culture, heritage and identity. The orange color comes from the story of a survivor who obtained an orange shirt in hopes of wearing it while attending a residential school. She soon learned that she was to dress like everyone else and expected to wear the provided clothing. And the feathers represent indigenous culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the NLL reaffirmed its commitment to the initiative. And, more importantly, they&#8217;re expanding their support in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Per the release, all 15 teams will participate in the program, which runs for three weeks (January 23rd &#8211; February 12th).
