NIL deals show promise and give college athletes hope<\/a>. It’s not perfect and still evolving, yet some are starting to sign deals that finally provide them with income for their formerly uncompensated labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami Hurricanes’ quarterback, D’Eriq King is one of these athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When NIL deals went into effect, King was one of the first to the table. He announced he signed an appearance deal with The Wharf in Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s long overdue,\u201d\u00a0said King<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m going to be one of the first people to make money from my name, image, and likeness. We are going to show the country it\u2019s here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He took it a step further by announcing that he would distribute the money to teammates whose families are hurting financially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many feared that NIL would divide locker rooms.

Miami QB D'Eriq King hopes to do the opposite, through team NIL functions.
