Yesterday these individuals were recognized for their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NAACP announced that the Warriors&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/firstandpen.com\/staging\/5861\/?s=steph+curry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steph Curry<\/a> and the Women\u2019s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) were the recipients of their Jackie Robinson Sports Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The award honors athletes for their success and their commitment to social justice, civil rights and their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis award is truly a humbling and honoring experience,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nba-race-and-ethnicity-jackie-robinson-anthony-fauci-maya-angelou-879e9f77a01b4044a20c66af63365455?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=AP_Sports&amp;utm_source=Twitter\">said Curry through a team spokesman<\/a>. &#8220;It kind of came by surprise in terms of when you do things in the community and speak on things you believe, it\u2019s about the collective effort, not just myself but everybody who is around me in terms of accountability to change.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Curry has been active in efforts to bring change. Whether it&#8217;s taking on the former president, helping Howard University&#8217;s golf team, or hosting a Q&amp;A with Dr. Fauci during the start of the pandemic last March, Curry is a familiar face in the fight for justice and equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But to him, it&#8217;s not done for money or press. The WNBA Social Justice Council continues their important work and you can definitely \u2018Count\u2019 on more to come from the players.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WNBA players have taken to the streets to organize and support these causes. Some left the game to pursue fights they believe in and as a group, they took the fight to former senator and Atlanta Dream owner Kelly Loeffler, forcing her to sell the team to a group that includes former <a href=\"https:\/\/firstandpen.com\/staging\/5861\/renee-montgomery-retires-from-wnba-to-pursue-social-activism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WNBA champion Renee Montgomery<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI love what the WNBA players have done. They\u2019ve really taken the lead with creativity and unity in a lot of important causes, political causes but social injustice issues,\u201d said Warriors&#8217; coach Steve Kerr. \u201cThey\u2019ve made their voices heard. They\u2019ve done it very creatively and powerfully.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Awards take place next week virtually.
