If you watched the Seahawks’ Chris Carson on the field, you know he ran hard, dishing it out as well as he took it.

If you watched him train on IG, you saw how much effort he put into strengthening his body in preparation for the season.

That’s why it’s so hard to hear that health issues have forced Carson to retire.

After five injury-riddled seasons, the 27-year-old running back was unable to heal from a lingering neck injury, so he’s calling it quits.

Seattle will release the former 1,000 yard rusher with a “failed physical designation.” That, fortunately, allows him to receive injury protection benefits, so Seattle did the right thing for their former running back.

It’s a tough end to his career, but it wasn’t totally unexpected as Carson missed all but four games in 2021.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll hinted that this decision might happen last season after Carson, a seventh-round selection out of Oklahoma State, had vertebrae-fusion surgery this past December.

“It’s just hard on him,” said Carroll at the time, per ESPN. “Our guys love this game that they grow up playing and when they sense that there may be an end to it, it’s hard. It’s difficult and it’s real. We’re going to love him through it and help him as much as possible if that’s the case, like we do with everybody when it comes to the end of it. It’s inevitable. It’s coming. But it’s always too soon. We’re trying to fight that off and he knows that. He’s battling. He’s doing everything he can and he wants to compete all the way until the last word.”

Our best to Chris Carson as he continues to heal up from his injury. Get better soon!
