In the championship game at the end of the classic film “Varsity Blues”, Mox steps into the huddle as the QB of the West Canaan Coyotes and defies Coach Kilmer’s play call in order to let his starting running back, Wendell, score the TD he rightfully deserved.

In the last game of the season against the 49ers in San Francisco, Seattle Seahawks’ star QB, Russell Wilson, channeled his inner-Mox in order to help out his own Wendell, receiver David Moore.

With the Seahawks winning 26-23 with 22 seconds remaining in the game, all Wilson had to do was take a knee and then game would be over. Instead, to the surprise of the Seahawks’ coaching staff and everyone watching the game, Wilson ran a play and pitched the ball forward to receiver David Moore, who turned it upfield and then out of bounds for five yards. But what seemed like a meaningless play actually had big ramifications as that one catch, Moore’s lone catch of the day as his 35th of the season, netted him a $100,000 bonus.

“We called that play because David had $100,000 if he gets that catch,’’ said Wilson per The Seattle Times. “So you know, it’s a blessing to be able to help his family and his daughter and all that stuff. It was part of the game, we wanted to get him that catch and so we were able to dial that up for him that last play.’’

Apparently Wilson heard about Moore’s bonus opportunity that week in practice and he wanted to make sure that the fourth year receiver got his just due, especially since Moore took a pay cut at the start of the season to stay with the team. His tender for a non-guaranteed deal of $2.13 million was restructured and taken down to $825,000, with a signing bonus of $75,000. So being able to get Moore an extra $100,000 for one catch, especially on the last real play, was a great way to start the year for Moore and the entire team.

“We were going to kneel it and then we ended up changing it,’’ continued Wilson, noting that he and quarterbacks coach, Austin Davis, had discussed it on the sidelines before that final series and he was 100% down with it. “Austin actually said, ‘Hey, let’s get it done; let’s get it done.

“So when we ended up calling it and I said, ‘Dave you’re going to get the ball right here, here we go,’ kind of winked at him. So that was pretty cool.’’

Mox got Wendell his TD and his scholarship to Grambling while Wilson got Moore his catch and $100,000.

Both of those guys are pretty cool.
