This past week was a big one for former Washington Wizards star, John Wall.

First, Wall announced his retirement from the NBA.

“Thank you for every cheer, every moment,” said Wall in a post on X. “Retired, but never done. I’m doing it the Wall way.”

A day later, Amazon Prime announced that he was joining their NBA on Prime broadcast team as an analyst for the upcoming season.

“After 13 seasons in the NBA filled with unforgettable moments, I am excited to start a new chapter with NBA on Prime,” said Wall in a statement. “This change is not just a career move; it’s a chance to stay close to the game I love and share the insights I’ve gained throughout my career playing point guard at the highest level. Basketball has shaped my life, and now I can help fans see it from a new angle. Although this is a new journey, my passion for the game remains unchanged. I look forward to growing in this role, learning from the team around me, and, most importantly, giving viewers real, behind-the-scenes knowledge that comes from competing at the highest level.”

Wall was the number one overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. In his nine seasons with the team, he was a 5x All-Star and averaged 19 ppg, 9.2 apg and 4.3 rpg.

After an injury forced him to sit out the entire 2019-20 season, he returned to the NBA with the Houston Rockets for a season before sitting out the following year and then playing with the Clippers in his last season in 2022-23.

Over his 11 year career, Wall averaged 18.7 ppg, 8.9 apg and 4.2 apg.

Now, Wall will join former players Blake Griffin, Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Dwyane Wade, Candace Parker and Udonis Haslem in the studio during Amazon’s inaugural season as the NBA’s exclusive streaming partner.

“We’re proud to have John join us for the launch of NBA on Prime,” says Amina Hussein, Prime Sports Head of On-Air Talent. “He has an incredible eye for the game, and we look forward to the thoughtful perspective he will add to our coverage throughout the season.”
