On Wednesday, Dr. Ed Scott added another role to his impressive college athletics administration resume by being named the new Senior Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Memphis.

“While there were many exceptional candidates, we found that leader in Dr. Scott,” said University President Bill Hardgrave. “We are fortunate to have him join the Tiger Family, and we look forward to continuing toward our promising future in athletics under his guidance.”

Scott was the Deputy Athletics Director at the University of Virginia since January 2022. Now he heads to Memphis with a lengthy resume that includes experience as an AD at Morgan State in Baltimore.

During his five-year tenure, Morgan State athletics flourished and became a model program.

He oversaw 14 DI programs with the Bears, which included starting the first DI HBCU wrestling and acrobatics and tumbling programs. He also launched the Morgan Bear Club, which was the department’s first annual fund and secured the school’s first major apparel deal with Baltimore neighbor, Under Armour.

Scott was also responsible for $25 million in athletic and recreational facility renovations and improvements, became the first AD to serve on the President’s Cabinet and was named the 2021-22 Cushman & Wakefield Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Equally as impressive was his success with student-athletes.

Under his leadership, the student-athlete graduation rate increased by 19%, the GPA rose to a record 3.41 GPA and he also secured a grant of almost $900,000 for academic support services for the athletic department.

Prior to his time at Morgan St., Scott served as a senior associate director of athletics at George Washington and Binghamton universities and made stops at Louisville and his alma mater, the University at Albany, where he was also a star baseball player.

Now Scott leaves the ACC for to run the show for the AAC program at Memphis.

“The University of Memphis is a destination for me, and it has been on my radar for some time,” Scott said in a statement. β€œWith exceptional student-athletes, coaches and staff that have the backing of a proud and motivated city, the opportunity is here to accomplish great things as we continue forward in a new era of intercollegiate athletics. I want to thank President Hardgrave for giving me this opportunity. My family and I are excited to join Tiger Nation.”
