Masai Ujiri Reportedly Gets New Deal, Bigger Role With Raptors

Ujiri won another title with the Raptors.

Masai Ujiri built something special with the Toronto Raptors in the 2018-19 season. After trading for Kawhi Leonard in July of 2018, the Raptors went on to win the title in June of 2019.

Now, two years later, Ujiri is being rewarded for his title-winning move.

According to ESPN, the Raptors president has reportedly agreed to a new deal with the team that will make him vice chairman and president of the organization.

After winning NBA Executive of the Year as the Nuggets’ general manager, Masai Ujiri joined Toronto in 2013 in the same role. Eight years and one title later, Masai is taking a giant, and much deserved, leap up with the Raptors.

The team released a video on Twitter today with Ujiri, but it did not address the reports of his new deal.

“On the court, our goal is clear: Win. It’s simple: Win. Bring another championship to Toronto,” said Ujiri in the video. “We are united in that mission and nothing else will do. We will bring young talent to this city and continue to build with our unbelievable players. I’ve said it before, and I am saying it again: We will win in Toronto. I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this team. I love being the leader of the Toronto Raptors and I’m here to stay.”

Ujiri has his work cut out for him as the Raptors parted ways with their long-time guard, 6x NBA All-Star and team leader, Kyle Lowry.

But he wasn’t Executive of the Year and NBA title builder for nothing.
