The greatness and presence of LeBron James continue, despite not being in the NBA Finals this year.
Last week, LeBron achieved a historic milestone when he became the first active NBA player to be a billionaire.
It was a goal he first disclosed in 2014.
And after eight years of investments in his SpringHill Co., the release of “Space Jam 2”, investing in Blaze Pizza and Tonal and the hundreds of millions earned through his contracts, Forbes added LeBron to its elite list with a value of $1.2 billion.
And King James isn’t stopping there.
His next goal?
To own an NBA team in Las Vegas.
“I wanna buy a team,” said James said on a new episode of The Shop. “I rather own a team before I talk. I want a team in [Las] Vegas. Yeah… I want the team in Vegas.”
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has addressed the issue of expansion but doesn’t believe the league is ready yet.
But if LeBron James, who already has ownership stakes in the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Liverpool FC, wants to bring a team to Vegas, we’re sure Silver would listen very closely.
Last March, the Oak View Group revealed plans to build a $3 billion stadium near the main strip in Vegas in the hopes of luring an expansion team.
The NFL, NHL and WNBA are already in the city.
The Las Vegas Desert Dogs of the NLL (National Lacrosse League) arrives in December. MLS should be there soon and the Oakland A’s could follow after that.
With all of those pro teams in Sin City, does the NBA want to be left out?
And does it want to ignore LeBron James’ next big goal?
We say no.
