Last week, NASCAR announced history-making news about Phoenix native, Latasha Causey.

Causey, a highly successful corporate executive, was named the new president of Phoenix Raceway. That made her the first Black woman to become a track president in NASCAR history.

NASCAR’s new trailblazer has deep roots in Arizona.

Causey is a graduate of Arizona State University and received her Master’s in organizational management from the university. She’s also a member of the ASU Alumni Board of Directors.

Her corporate resume is an extension of her state roots.

She worked as a vice president and community development officer for Bell Bank in Arizona and worked for the United States Automobile Association in North Phoenix.

Causey also has ties to NASCAR.

In 2020, she became a founding member of the NASCAR Accelerators host committee, which is comprised of community and business leaders serving as NASCAR ambassadors in the state. A year later, Causey was named one of the Most Influential Women in Arizona by AZ Big Media. That complemented her 2018 Outstanding Women in Business Award presented to her by the Phoenix Business Journal.

Those are just some of the reasons why NASCAR was thrilled to have her lead their track in Phoenix.

“Latasha’s track record speaks for itself as a highly experienced executive that prioritizes relationships and giving back to the community – also core values of ours at NASCAR,” said Chip Wile, NASCAR SVP and chief track properties officer in a statement. “NASCAR and Phoenix Raceway take pride in making a positive impact on the community through creating a best-in-class experience for fans when they visit the track, as well as through actively giving back and playing a significant role as a community partner. Because of these ideals, Latasha is the perfect fit to lead Phoenix Raceway into 2023 and beyond.”

The Phoenix native is excited about her new position and can’t wait to get started later this month.

“Phoenix Raceway plays a key role in showcasing our great community to visitors across the country every year,” said Causey. “I cannot wait to help build upon the great work that’s already been done in making this facility one of the true gems in sports and entertainment.”

Latasha now joins Eric Moses, who was named President of Nashville Superspeedway in 2020, as the two Black track presidents in NASCAR.
