It’s always great writing about athletes who selflessly give back to those in need, so we’re happy to tell you about the heartwarming actions of Kyle Kuzma.

On Sunday, the Washington Wizards forward donated $60,000 worth of clothes to women set to be released from jail in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He also distributed gifts to children visiting their mothers in jail and is also launching an initiative called “Kuz’s Corner” to help refurbish living conditions at the Genesee County jail.

This was all possible thanks to the partnership between the Kyle Kuzma Family Foundation and I.G.N.I.T.E. and R.I.S.E., organizations dedicated to helping incarcerated women re-enter society.

“Kuz’s Corner provides incarcerated female inmates something to reach towards, and prove to themselves and others of their worth and value,” stated the foundation in a release. “The females chosen to reside in Kuz’s Corner have set themselves apart as role models in their behavior, mentorship, and strive to return to the community as a better neighbor.”

This is a personal mission for Kuzma for he understands the struggle many single mothers face as he was raised by one, his mom, Karri.

“When I was growing up, she worked two jobs and that hard work and dedication, just to make ends meet, put food on the table,” Kuzma told GMA. “That’s been my inspiration my entire life.”

That’s why Kuzma, who launched his foundation in 2019, is dedicated to helping single mothers in Michigan, the DMV and LA, areas where he’s lived and played.

“My mom is the head honcho of our foundation. She’s very happy to have that job title,” Kuzma said. “Our mission is just to help. Our main priority is single mothers and underprivileged kids and working with different community centers, charities, and benefit foundations to accomplish goals. Obviously that’s a wide variety. I know my mom has a great passion for single mothers and mothers raising kids that don’t have necessities. That’s important to me too because we lived that.”

This isn’t the only event Kuzma organized.

The Foundation also held a Thanksgiving meal for DMV residents and has a Christmas shopping spree event for single mothers coming in December.
