On Monday, Grambling State University parted ways with their head coach, Broderick Fobbs.

It was a bittersweet moment for both the school and Fobbs, who is Grambling to the core.

Per The News Star, Fobbs attended the first-ever Eddie Robinson Football Camp. Coming out of Carroll High School, he was recruited by several programs but only had eyes for Grambling. In his final two seasons, he ranked among the university’s rushing leaders during his final two seasons, graduating in 1997.

He moved into coaching, with stops at McNeese State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Mississippi and Northwestern State.

In 2013, he finally secured his dream job at Grambling as the Tigers’ head coach.

During his tenure with the Tigers, Fobbs amassed a record of 54-32, won two SWAC titles, made two Celebration Bowl appearances and won a Black College Football National Championship. He was also a three-time SWAC Coach of the Year.

But after a long run, his time at Grambling is over.

“Earlier today, I informed head coach Broderick Fobbs of my decision to make a change in leadership of our football program,” said Grambling State University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Tray Scott. “Broderick Fobbs is one of the finest human beings I have had the pleasure to meet in this industry and he has been a tremendous role model and mentor to our young men. We appreciate his many years of service to our university and wish both him and his family nothing but the best. Consistent with our values as an institution, he deserves the utmost respect from the Grambling State University Tiger family throughout this transition.”

The team moves forward with Linebackers coach and special teams coordinator Terrence Graves, a 25-year veteran coach in the SWAC.

This is Graves’ seventh season with the Tigers.

He will now lead them as their interim head coach against Southern at the Bayou Classic on November 27th.
