Today, former Buccaneers’ receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead in a hotel room in Tampa. He was 38 years old.

According to New Channel 8, Jackson’s body was found by a housekeeper at the Homewood Suites this morning. According to deputies, Jackson has been staying there since January 11th.

On February 10th, his family reported him missing. Two days later, deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office found Jackson at the hotel. They spoke with him, concluded everything was ok and the missing persons report was canceled.

As of this afternoon, no signs of trauma were found and the coroner has yet to determine a cause of death.

“Football aside, he touched countless lives through his Jackson In Action 83 Foundation. We shared a passion for supporting military families, and three years ago, Jackson was even made an honorary deputy by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to recognize his dedication to the community,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement. “He will be sorely missed by not only football fans across the country, but also the people here in Hillsborough County who reaped the benefits of his generous contributions.”

Vincent Jackson was drafted by the Chargers in second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He was a two-time Pro Bowler (2009, 2011) with San Diego. Jackson signed with the Bucs in 2012, made the Pro Bowl that season and retired in 2016.

“My heart aches for the many loved ones Vincent Jackson leaves behind, from his wife and children to the Buccaneers nation that adored him,” said Chronister.

Jackson amassed 540 catches for 9,080 yards and 57 touchdowns in his twelve year career.
