Fresh off of another highly successful “Black Women in Sports” event, this time across the pond in London, Diverse Representation is hosting a new event to showcase the beauty, brilliance, talents and excellence of Black women in the sports industry through the inaugural Black Women in Sports Arts Exhibit.
The event, sponsored by Events DC, Andscape (ESPN), and Morgan Stanley Global Sports and Entertainment, will take place July 29th – August 1st at the 11:Eleven gallery in Washington, D.C.
“As Black women continue to break barriers and reach new heights within the sports industry, we wanted to curate an exhibit that explores and documents the ongoing impact of Black women in the industry,” said Jaia Thomas, founder of Diverse Representation.

This inaugural art exhibit will feature over twenty works that examine the power, identity, athleticism and cultural significance of Black women in sports. Some of the featured photographers and artists include: Rebecca “Bexx” Francois, Sage East, Glen Gaines, Kent J. Edwards, Aviana Goode, Nicol Biesek, and Sophia Bischoff. The works included in the exhibit highlight Black women in a number of sports ranging from swimming and diving to soccer and basketball.
Works feature Black women across a variety of sports and captures special moments many don’t see on screen.
One of the exhibit’s photographers, Emmy-award winning Sebastian Arriagada, captured Naomi Osaka at Wimbledon and Roland Garros this year, including the moment Osaka paid tribute to her Japanese heritage in a white outfit before walking onto the court.
“This body of work is about more than sport or fashion: it’s about what it means for a Black woman to fully own her image in an arena that wasn’t built with her in mind. Naomi has used every platform available to her, on the court and off, to write a new narrative,” said Arriagada.
The powerful exhibit begins on July 29th and is free and open to the public.
