Diverse Representation is set to host its next Black Ownership in Sports Symposium, which takes place March 22nd at the Buckhead Club in Atlanta, Ga.

The inaugural event, held in 2023, aimed to “change those demographics and open up more pathways for Black ownership in professional sports.” It featured Black team owners including former Atlanta Falcons star running back Warrick Dunn, who purchased an ownership stake in the Falcons a year after retiring.

This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better.

Per the release:

This disruptive one-day event features a number of panel conversations, fireside chats and networking opportunities aimed at providing
Black professionals with the tools and information to purchase ownership stakes in professional sports teams.

“From Issa Rae to Venus Williams, we’ve seen a recent rise in the number of Black professionals with ownership stakes in professional sports. In an effort to continue that trend, we’re excited to host our second Black Ownership In Sports Symposium,” said Jaia Thomas, founder of Diverse Representation. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure Black professionals are represented in all facets of the sports industry – from players to management to ownership.”

Team ownership by Black executives, athletes and entertainers has increased over the last few years, with stars and big names such as Magic Johnson, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, the Williams Sisters, Coco Gauff, Condoleezza Rice and many others investing in teams from the NFL, WNBA, Pickleball and more.

As of 2025, there are 100 Black professionals with ownership stakes in a variety of professional sports leagues, and that number will continue to grow as new opportunities emerge in expanding sports leagues such as the WNBA and NWSL.

This year’s symposium will include speakers such as Will Packer (Minority Owner, Atlanta Falcons), Christina Francis (President, Magic Johnson Enterprises), Paxton Baker (Minority Owner, Washington Nationals), and more. They will cover topics ranging from current investment opportunities to private equity rules and regulations.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a College Park Skyhawks game, which is co-owned by Grant Hill and College Park native rapper 2 Chainz.
