Dallas Cowboys fans and players, as well as wide receivers across the league, were waiting to see whether the Cowboys and 2x All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb would come to a contract agreement.

On Monday afternoon, the two parties reached an agreement and it was historic.

Lamb and the team agreed to a four-year, $136 million contract extension, which includes $100 million guaranteed and a $38 million signing bonus, the highest ever for a receiver.

The star receiver, who has remained away from the team since OTAs, will now rejoin Dallas as the second-highest paid, non-QB in NFL history, with an average salary of $34 million sitting behind only Justin Jefferson, who makes $35 million per year from the four-year, $140 deal he signed with the Vikings this past June.

Lamb’s new deal comes a few short weeks after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he didn’t “have any urgency to get it done.” But after Lamb responded with a simple “LOL” on X, Jones changed direction and took steps to lock in his 25-year-old star player.

CeeDee has risen to become an NFL star after being selected by Dallas with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Some felt the Oklahoma Sooners star was the best receiver in the Draft yet he was the third receiver taken behind Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy. It was a receiver-heavy draft, with Justin Jefferson going 22nd to Minnesota (the Eagles mystifyingly took Jalen Reagor at no. 21) and Brandon Aiyuk going to the 49ers with pick 25.

But out of that group, Jefferson and CeeDee have, and rightfully so, received the biggest financial windfalls. Aiyuk will join them once his situation is resolved.

In his four years in the league, Lamb has 395 receptions for 5,145 yards and 32 TDs. Last year he had a career season with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 TDs.

Now that Lamb has gotten his big payday, Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons are waiting anxiously in the wings for theirs.
