Pickleball has continued its growth and now the sport has arrived in Brooklyn, arguably the trendiest city in the country, through the team the Brooklyn Aces.
And the Aces have some big names in sports and entertainment backing it.
The Major League Pickleball club, owned by 35V’s Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman, announced a powerful group of new investors in the Aces including actor Michael B. Jordan, grammy-winning rapper Drake, and Translation founder/CEO Steve Stoute.
“We’re thrilled to have this incredible group of investors join the Brooklyn Aces as we continue to grow the team and raise the profile of Major League Pickleball as a whole,” said Aces majority owner Rich Kleiman in a statement. “It’s the idea of bringing people in that we could share in this with and utilize resources as the Aces evolve. Our investor group includes some of the savviest entrepreneurs in the business, and having this network on our cap table positions us to be successful.”
The new group continues its recent focus on investments in the sports industry.
Michael B. Jordan recently invested in the Alpine Formula 1 team and English soccer team, AFC Bournemouth. Jordan also previously joined Kleiman in becoming stakeholders of esports organization NYXL, which is based in New York City.
The Aces and its ownership are committing to building a relationship between the team, sport and the city and will be hosting Aces Day of Play, a youth-focused Pickleball event, on August 3rd at the Union Square CityPickle courts in Manhattan.
