After a 10 year pro tennis career, Chris Eubanks decided to call it quits this past November at the age of 29, but that didn’t mean that he was leaving the sport entirely.
Instead he shifted his focus to broadcasting, capturing the attention of tennis fans through his analysis and athlete interviews, particularly with Coco Gauff.
Because of his on-air talent and success, he caught the attention of the Tennis Channel, which announced its signed Eubanks to a three-year deal to become an on-air commentator and host.
“I’ve always loved talking tennis almost as much as playing it,” said Eubanks in a statement. “Tennis Channel has always been such an important part of how fans experience our sport, so to now join the team in this capacity is incredibly special. Having the opportunity to share what’s happening inside the lines — the strategy, the emotions, the momentum shifts — is something I’m really excited about. Tennis has given me so much and I am looking forward to staying connected to the game in this way.”
Eubanks is a great signing for the network, whose CEO, Jeff Blackburn, said he is “thrilled” to have the former pro on the broadcast team.
“Chris understands where tennis is right now — competitively and culturally. He brings an authenticity and point of view that resonates on-air.”
Eubanks’ talents and experience will enable the network to maintain its connection to its core audience while also bringing new fans to both the channel and the sport in general.
The former pro and onetime Olympian will make his debut with the Tennis Channel on March 4th when the network begins its coverage of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
