While some are busy ripping Nets’ guard Kyrie Irving for being selfish, distant and immature, they fail to understand just how deep pain, suffering and caring goes for Irving.

During an interview with Etan Thomas on his podcast “The Rematch”, former NBA player Stephen Jackson discussed the events surrounding the murder of George Floyd and the support his family has received in the aftermath. One of the more interesting things he pointed out was the fact that Kyrie bought George Floyd’s family a house.
“She’s getting so much love — not just from us, but from people all around the world who are showing support,” said Jackson. “I’m just continuing to do what I said I was going to do; I said I was going to be my brother’s keeper and take care of his daughter and make sure that her next days are her best days. A lot of my friends [have helped]. Kyrie Irving bought them a house. Lil Wayne’s manager bought them a Mercedes Benz. Barbra Streisand gave them stock in Disney.”
This is not the first time that Jackson has spoken with Kyrie either. The point guard was an active voice last year when the league was discussing playing in a bubble during the height of the pandemic, saying the season would take attention away from social justice efforts. He expressed those feelings to Jackson, which he, in turn, shared with the media.
“The first press conference I had, he been calling me damn near every day on FaceTime,” said Jackson. “He’s been passionate about this, and by the conversation he had, I just think he understands this moment. And he’s just like me. I don’t have all the answers. And he’s speaking off heart. He’s speaking off passion. Because – I ain’t said this on no interviews – he’s been calling me crying, because he literally knows that I’m putting everything on the line.”
So maybe Kyrie isn’t simply about Kyrie, but rather about something bigger that has affected him in ways that no one understands.
