In one of the craziest stories we’ve heard in a while, the Belizean men’s national soccer team was held up at gunpoint in Haiti while on their way to a 2022 World Cup qualifying match.

According to BBC, as the team bus was being escorted to the hotel shortly after arriving in the county earlier this week, armed gunmen stopped them. Per the Belize Football Federation, the motorcycle gang was equipped with assault rifles.

“Despite the four-man police escort, the team bus was stopped by an uproar of insurgents with assault rifles on motorcycles and police escorts were forced to negotiate with them for the team bus to continue its journey to the hotel.”

Fortunately, everyone was ok and after some intense moments, the soccer team proceeded to the hotel.

“We are pleased to report that our Jaguars, although shaken by the terrible experience, are safely at their hotel.” said the FFB on their Facebook page.

Unfortunately, they lost to Haiti on Thursday, 2-0. But at least they’re safe and no one was injured.
