Jalen Hurts has given everything to the city of Philadelphia.
Now in his seventh year with the team, Hurts has led the Eagles to five playoff appearances, two Super Bowls and one Super Bowl title.
Off the field, he’s brought a similar championship impact to the city, primarily to its students and schools.
In 2024, Hurts donated $200,000 to provide air conditioners to schools across the city.
“I believe every child deserves a comfortable space to learn and grow,” Hurts said at the time. “Philadelphia has given me so much, and I’m excited to give back to the community in a way that supports our future leaders. Ensuring our schools are equipped with essential resources like air conditioning is one step toward helping our students achieve their very best.”
That generous and much needed donation provided more than 300 air conditioning units to 10 schools across the district.
Earlier this week, Hurts did it again, only this time he upped the donation from his Jalen Hurts Foundation to $600,000 for HVAC upgrades at Northeast High School, an institution which, according to WPVI in Philly, didn’t have air conditioning.
It’s the largest donation by his foundation to date.
“Growing up in the South, I was very blown away about school being canceled not for snow, but for lack of AC,” Hurts said, recalling how hot the buildings and classrooms could become and the harm that could cause.
Thanks to Hurts, another school will have that problem addressed.
According to a grateful School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Tony Watlington, the number of district schools without A/C has dropped from 118 to 52, and Hurts has been part of that decrease.
It’s part of an ongoing effort by Philly’s Super Bowl LIX MVP and his “Keep It Cool” initiative, where, since 2024, he donates $5,000 for each TD he scored to the initiative.
“I’ve been in your guys’ shoes and I know the importance of having support and having the backing to do and achieve whatever dreams that you have,” said Hurts after the massive donation was announced.
It’s yet another win for Hurts, who continues to prove his doubters wrong both on and off the field.
